The Navtex operates in the medium frequency band at 518 kHz. Some nations use the 490 kHz frequency for transmissions in their native tongues, also referred to as national navtex. Messages are produced on 4209.5 kHz in areas where receiving medium frequency signals is challenging. A Navtex’s preset frequency is 518 kHz. To disseminate this information, the entire world is divided into 21 regions known as NAVAREAS (including five parts recently added for the Arctic region).
