Water-activated distress beacons are known as float-free Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (FF EPIRBs) and are mounted on a float-free bracket. When a ship capsizes to a depth of 1-4 metres, they are intended to go into action. They employ a water-activated switch and a hydrostatic release action.
