The IMO created the Energy Efficiency eXisting Ship Index (EEXI) as a short-term metric to reduce ship greenhouse gas emissions. The EEXI is a design-related technical measure. By the first monthly survey in 2023, ships must approve the achieved EEXI value once in a lifetime.
