The S-57 characteristic known as SCAM was created to offer a method for managing multiscale ENC data and online generalization in the ECDIS. Scale Minimum (SCAMIN) values are assigned to each object in an ENC. This determines the display scale below which an ECDIS must no longer display the thing.
