Which VHF channels am I allowed to use?

When the radio is turned on and not in use to communicate with another station, boaters equipped with VHF radios are required by FCC requirements to keep a watch on either channel 9 or 16. Communication for non-emergency traffic should occur elsewhere (not channels 9 &16).

Channels 6, 8, 72, and 77 are now open for regular ship-to-ship communications in Indian waters.
