What Is A Gyroplane?

A gyroplane is an aircraft that uses a freely spinning rotor to generate lift. The rotor of a gyroplane spins in flight due to the air loading on the rotor blades (aerofoils) as the aircraft goes forward, unlike a helicopter with a powered rotor. Since there is no torque load like there would be with a powered rotor, a gyroplane’s free-spinning rotor does not need an anti-torque device like a tail rotor.
