A Grand Arrival

The MS Norwegian Sky, proudly sailing under the Bahamas flag, docked at Berth 4 as the fifth cruise vessel of the season. Measuring an impressive 258.6 meters in length, this majestic ship carried 1,876 passengers and 861 crew members, making it the most significant passenger arrival at the port since the cruise season resumed post-pandemic. Its journey is part of an extensive international itinerary, connecting the ports of Galle, Kochi, Mangaluru, Goa, Mumbai, and Abu Dhabi. It offers travelers a blend of coastal charm and cultural exploration.

Warm Welcome and Ceremonial Honors

The ship’s maiden call was met with a heartfelt reception. A traditional plaque exchange ceremony symbolized goodwill and strengthened international maritime ties. S Shanthi, Deputy Chairperson of NMPA, greeted the ship’s master with a commemorative memento. At the same time, M. Shyamprasad Kamath, Managing Director of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), gave the ship’s general manager a gift to show his gratitude. These gestures underscored the port’s commitment to fostering global connections.

Cultural Showcase and Exploration

Passengers were welcomed with vibrant performances of Yakshagana and Bharatanatyam at the cruise lounge, immersing them in the region’s rich heritage. A total of 977 passengers disembarked to explore the coastal and cultural charm of Dakshina Kannada, including visits to Karkala Gomateshwara, Moodabidri’s 1,000 Pillar Basadi, Soans Farm, Kadri and Gokarnanatha Temples, and local markets. Over 40 coaches, multiple Tempo Travellers, shuttle buses, and cars facilitated seamless transportation.
