On April 7, 2025, an IndiGo flight traveling from Jaipur to Mumbai, identified as flight 6E 5324, was forced to execute an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai after an alarming discovery onboard.
The aircraft, carrying 225 passengers, touched down safely at approximately 8:50 PM following the declaration of a full emergency at 8:43 PM. The incident was triggered when a handwritten note suggesting a bomb threat was found in one of the plane’s rear lavatories during the flight.
Upon discovery, the flight crew immediately informed air traffic control, prompting swift action from airport authorities. The plane was directed to a remote isolation bay to ensure the safety of everyone onboard and to allow for a thorough investigation. Emergency protocols were activated, with security teams, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and a bomb disposal squad, conducting an exhaustive search of the aircraft.
After meticulous inspection, the threat was determined to be a hoax, with no explosive devices found. The Sahar police subsequently began registering a First Information Report (FIR) to investigate the origin of the note and identify the individual responsible.
Mumbai International Airport Limited, which operates the airport, emphasized that the safety of passengers and staff remained their top priority. The statement also noted that regular airport operations were unaffected despite the emergency measures.
Passengers were safely disembarked, and the aircraft remained under scrutiny as authorities worked to resolve the situation. This incident adds to a series of similar hoax threats reported in recent times, raising concerns about aviation security and the need for stringent measures to prevent such disruptions.
